Brazil's National Confederation of Transport will host an international seminar on HDV efficiency

The Brazilian National Confederation of Transport (CNT), in partnership with the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) and the Institute for Energy and Environment (IEMA), will hold the 1st International Seminar on Energy Efficiency of Heavy Vehicles.

The event will take place on June 5th and 6th, 2013, at the headquarters of the CNT in Brasilia, and will bring together professionals, entrepreneurs, organizations and associations of cargo and passengers road transport, government agencies, research centers, and industrial and commercial sectors as well as development banks.

As the main representative body of the carriers in Brazil, the CNT brings together cargo and passenger transport, a sector which comprises 124,000 companies, 824,000 independent truck drivers, and 323 cooperatives, responsible for 776,000 direct jobs and US$98.58 of the Brazil’s gross domestic product.

By holding this seminar, the CNT intends to improve fuel management on transport companies, to encourage environmental conservation, and to foster the formulation of government policies and programs on the topic. The confederation seeks to promote the sector’s competitiveness by improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions of pollutants from Brazil’s 1.4 million trucks and buses, which are responsible for an annual consumption of approximately 36 million m3 of diesel.
