Daniel Rutherford is the ICCT program director for marine and aviation. In that capacity, he acts as the ICCT’s chief representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on policies to reduce conventional pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions from oceangoing vessels. From 2008 to 2012, Dr. Rutherford led ICCT's aviation program and served as a technical observer to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) working group on aircraft emissions and technology. He contributes to work on light and heavy-duty vehicle efficiency as ICCT's Japan lead, and has co-authored technical reports and peer-reviewed journal articles on aircraft and airline efficiency, emission control policies for heavy-duty vehicles, and global passenger vehicle efficiency standards. Dr. Rutherford holds a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota at Morris and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and Science from Stanford University.
